WALANG HANGGAN: THE PHENOMENAL FINALE

After much anticipation and excitement, the finale of Walang Hanggan is finally over! How will I describe it? It was dramatic, intense, and unexpected! The ending is surprisingly different as to what most of us, I bet, were hoping to happen. Nonetheless, it was really great! I really liked it!

Filipinos love the traditional happy endings, the “and they lived happily ever after” kind. Thus, many really wanted the characters of Daniel and Katerina to live until the end. However, some (including me) are expecting that Daniel and Katerina are going to die because if we base it from the movie where it was adapted from, the 1991 movie Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit starring Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta as Gabriel and Carmina respectively, the main characters died. Will they spoil the expectations of the viewers for a happily-ever-after ending or will they follow the original flow of the story?

And so, Katerina died. The scene where Daniel was beside Katerina in her final moment was so calm yet full with so much anguish and pain! And the part where Daniel didn’t want to leave the cemetery was so heartbreaking! So while Daniel was beside Katerina’s grave, Tomas came. They had a fight! And Tomas shot Daniel straight into the heart! Then, too late it was, the others characters arrived and Emily rushed to Daniel and wailed! It was a wail so painful and heartbreaking and I almost cried! I think it’s the saddest scene ever! It reminded me of Pieta. I’m pretty sure many viewers had outrageously reacted while watching. It was such a tragic story!

But the happier part came. Everybody who was watching the soap must have been feeling heavy on the tragic death of Daniel and Katerina. So, they made the scenes where Daniel and Katerina are happily reunited in heaven. At least the happy scenes lightened the heavy feeling brought by the intense scenes beforehand. Just when I was expecting that it will end that way, another twist added up to the surprise. Emily got pregnant and gave birth to a son whom they named “Daniel”. And then, they had neighbors with a daughter named “Katherine”. How about that? Could it be possible that a sequel is going to happen?

The last episode of Walang Hanggan is such a phenomenal one and the performances executed by the actors and actresses (most especially Coco Martin, Dawn Zulueta,and Paulo Avelino) were totally superb! They were all out and they definitely deserve an award for that!

It was, indeed, a great soap opera! It’s one of the best, I think! I will surely miss watching it!

WALANG HANGGAN

For the year 2012, I can say that Walang Hanggan has been the most successful primetime soap opera in the country. And perhaps, one of the most successful of all times, too! Not only did it consistently maintain its top rates, but it also showcased such a powerhouse cast making the actors and actresses shine in their own, particular characters. You can see the top caliber artists generation after generation starting from Susan Roces and Helen Gamboa, to Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta, and up to the famous ones of today’s generation including Joem Bascon, Melissa Ricks, Paulo Avelino, Julia Montes and Coco Martin. In addition, they’ve also got a very good supporting cast which includes Rita Avila, Eula Valdez, Nonie Buencamino, Arlene Mulach, and Ogie Diaz.

What made the soap opera get such great support from the audience? First, I think,the actors and actresses themselves have got so many supporters. Susan Roces and Helen Gamboa are two of the most-respected veteran actresses in the country and there’s no question to their skill. Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta, who were among the most famous ones in the 80s to 90s, have never lost their captivating charm as well as their chemistry as a loveteam. With regards to acting, surely they are the best.They used to be real life sweethearts, too, so you could not remove the fact that they’ve really got a spark together. Joem Bascon and Melissa Ricks are also very good in portraying their roles. Paulo Avelino, I think, has gotten the biggest break. It’s in this show where people have seen how a good actor he can be. His role as a good, charming boy turned into an obsessed, dangerous lunatic has made him show his acting skills and he really outshined. Julia Montes, who made a breakthrough with his role as Clara in Mara Clara, has proven that she deserved to be in her spot right now at a young age. And of course, who will not agree with Coco Martin? He’s got both the skills and the looks! He is a great actor and I bet many girls are all so crazy about him. He has got such charisma and who can ever resist his charm?

The concept and story was also very-well planned and written. I admire the writers and the directors and everyone in the production for they have made an excellent production. The script and the flow of the story are brilliant! I just love the way they have made the story twist and turn without making you get tired following it. It will even make you want to watch for more and you can’t wait on what to happen next. The excitement never stops! Secrets were constantly revealed without really prolonging much of the action and the twists were really nice and more oftentimes unpredictable. 

The theme has also captured the hearts of many viewers. More than the drama, the love stories of Marco and Emily, and Daniel and Katerina have captivated many people. Filipinos enjoy stories like this especially with the hopeless romantics like me. Many are so “kilig to the bones” with the Coco-Julia and Richard-Dawn love teams. But the love team of Coco and Julia doesn’t give me much “kilig” as to what Richard and Dawn have on me!I think the main factor that affected the team-up of Coco and Julia is their age gap. Nonetheless, they carried it off! But with Richard and Dawn, it is “soooooo nakakakilig” (yes, I really made that part exaggerated!).  Their tandem certainly has a magnetic charm!I wasn’t even born when they started doing films together and yet after two decades, here they are reunited once more.  Call me old school, but despite their age, the still have such great chemistry together! Yes, I’m definitely a fan now!Theirs is one of the few love teams that totally captured my heart, along with the love teams John Lloyd Cruz- Bea Alonzo and Jericho Rosales-Kristine Hermosa!

Walang Hanggan will be ending on Friday. I’m sure the last few episodes will be very exciting! More are yet to happen and let’s watch for more action. I just hope that it will still have the traditional happy ending! Sure thing is, I and many other avid viewers are very happy to have watched a soap opera like this and we will never miss a thing until the very end!

Hopeful Wanna-Be

There is this funny line that I read one time and it goes like this, “When God showered talents on earth, I must be sleeping”. That hit me! That was comical and yet metaphorically applicable for me. There are really times when I feel frustrated and feel like there is really nothing that I’m really excellent with. I’m neither a good singer nor a good dancer. Well, I can sing, but not really with a golden or angelic voice (sigh…). And when you see me dance, I’m probably one of the stiffest one you’ll ever see. I’m neither good in arts or sports. Ironically, I maybe tall and all that but I’m not really an athletic type. But I know how to play badminton and I love basketball, too. I just don’t know why the ball seems to weigh like it’s 10 pounds or more and I could hardly throw it into the ring. I’ve got a weak stamina too that’s why. I just prefer watching games rather than playing it. Lastly, I don’t know how to play any musical instrument except for xylophone. 

If you would ask me the top things that I want to have or learn, I really want to have a good singing voice and to learn how to play musical instruments, which include the piano, violin and guitar. I really love music and I really wish I could make good music on my own too. What an enormous desire!

 

I really admire the young guitarist named Sungha Jung. He is so good! And he really looks so cool and cute when he is playing his guitar! I wish I could be that good also! Here is one of his recently uploaded video on Youtube. He never fails to amaze me!

If ever I will learn how to play the piano, the first piece that I want to master is the Love Affair by Ennio Morricone! It’s one of my most favorite melody ever! It always gives me this nostalgic and soothing feeling. It’s really beautiful and I will never get tired listening to it.

You can’t really have it all! But the good thing is that God always gives you something that you can be totally good at! He doesn’t leave you empty-handed. Hence, all that you have to do is to hone what you innately have. And don’t ever try comparing yourself with others. Each and every person differs. Don’t think that you’re superior or inferior with what you have and don’t have. You don’t need to compete with anyone. I believe that you should only compete with your own self. You want to be better, try to better, as a way of self-improvement. Don’t take it as if like you are competing with others, instead gather inspiration from them. Anyway, there is always this thing called learning.
